Advertising campaign photography for UA92.

I have been working alongside Truth Design in Manchester for many years now and they’ve sent me on plenty of exciting photoshoots for a variety of different clients. One of these is UA92, which is a new university campus based in Salford. The shoots for UA92 have been a mix of campaign work and reportage photography to document life on campus. The latest advertising campaign photoshoot has just been released and this is what we did.

The team at Truth wanted some high contrast portraits of the students, combining a red and blue colour palette. I always knew that there would be a sweet spot, using a combination of lighting gels over the studio lights, so did some testing back at my home. I won’t say studio, because I no longer have one, but the mill room at our house did the job quite nicely. Having played around with some ideas, I then took these tests into the shoot and the lighting was refined pretty quickly on site. As with most shoots involving lighting, I always test on my assistant, client or willing passerby. Once the lighting is good to go, it’s time to bring in the talent. In this case, a collection of student volunteers from the university.

Working with students is always very refreshing and being in the university environment makes me wish I’d spent longer in higher education. The facilities that students have at their disposal now is quite staggering and UA92 are no different.

Loved shooting this campaign and seeing what the future holds for this new university.
